A resume isn't a Brazilian CV

International jobs expect a resume, with different conventions from the Brazilian CV. Applying with the wrong model is a silent filter — sometimes before the ATS even.

What to remove (and why)

  • Photo, age, marital status, and national ID — out for legal and bias reasons
  • Full address — city/country and time zone are enough for remote
  • Generic objective — replace it with a job-focused summary

English with impact

Use past-tense action verbs (built, led, shipped, reduced) and keep metrics. Avoid literal translation from Portuguese — it sounds off and diluted.

The ATS in English

Now the keywords are the ones in the English JD. The method is the same as resume keywords, only in the job's language.

Checklist to apply abroad

  • Resume in English, one page, no photo/personal data
  • Action verbs + metrics in every bullet
  • Keywords from the English JD (acronym and full term)
  • LinkedIn in English aligned with the resume
  • Score tested against the job before sending
